My father is 91 and has progressive Alzheimer’s disease. We have always respected Dr. Dalvi’s medical care, but our experience with his office staff has been consistently disappointing, and our most recent interaction was unacceptable for a neurology practice that treats dementia patients. When my father’s insurance changed—something very common for elderly patients—the office called on Monday to confirm his upcoming appointment. After I secured medical transport on Tuesday, I reconfirmed the appointment on Thursday. At that point, the staff informed me they preferred to cancel the appointment rather than assist with updating the insurance information. They repeatedly emphasized that I “only had a day or two” to sort it out, offered no meaningful guidance, and showed no willingness to work with me, even though they know my father has Alzheimer’s and is completely dependent on a caregiver to coordinate his care. The tone was dismissive and rigid, with no acknowledgment of the… realities of caring for a dementia patient who requires medical transport and advanced coordination. Rescheduling with this practice takes approximately six months. That delay, while inconvenient, is not my issue. The real problem is the lack of professionalism and basic support for a vulnerable patient population. This was not an isolated incident. When my father’s dementia progressed and we needed assistance with required paperwork—something many neurology offices routinely help with—the staff declined to assist. For a clinic that treats Alzheimer’s disease, this kind of administrative disengagement creates unnecessary hardship for families who are already overwhelmed. A neurology practice that sees large numbers of dementia patients should expect to work collaboratively with caregivers. Navigating insurance transitions, helping with documentation, and providing a reasonable level of flexibility are part of caring for patients who cannot advocate for themselves. Instead, the attitude we encountered was essentially: cancel first, help later, if at all. I want to be clear that I believe Dr. Dalvi is a capable and knowledgeable physician. Our concerns are with the office staff and the systems around him, which do not reflect the level of support dementia patients and their families need. The overall experience leaves the impression that administrative burden is placed entirely on caregivers, with little sensitivity to the challenges of Alzheimer’s care. Because of this, I cannot recommend this practice for families seeking a supportive environment for dementia management. The clinical expertise may be there, but the lack of compassionate and functional administrative support undermines the quality of care. We will be moving my father’s care elsewhere.

As my biggest problem is the speech my communication with the doctor wasn't very clear but he made some effort to understand me.

I had a horrible experience when I had an appointment on May 8th. He double booked another patient at the same time as my appointment, and even though I arrived 15 minutes before the other patient, they took him in first. When I asked the receptionist why, she lied to me and claimed that he made the appointment before me, which is probably NOT TRUE, because I made my appointment 6 months earlier.. After more than 1 hour waiting, I got disgusted and I left. I asked for a refund of my co-pay, which the receptionist said that the manager will take care of. I am still waiting !! Needless to say, I will never go back.

The Dr. brushed off my questions and prescribed a new medication without discussing the side affects. Neither he nor his nurse showed any empathy and his nurse was curt. Time spent seemed to be their most important consideration.
