I have been a patient of Dr. Poelstra's for approximately five (5) years. He determined when I first became a patient that I would eventually need both lumbar and cervical surgery due to a genetic problem with my spine. He did not rush or pressure me and I felt confident from my first visit that he was the correct surgeon for me when I finally decided that I was ready. I am 70 years old and was concerned about difficulties at my age and mobility going forward. He performed robotic lumbar spine surgery on May 8, 2019 and I feel wonderful.

Just had a complex cervical spine surgery performed by Dr. Poelstra. My osteoporosis certainly made the surgery more of a challenge. Dr. Poelstra devoted a lot of time and attention to my particular problems before coming up with a solution. I'm very happy with the outcome. Am also thrilled to report not only did the surgery go well, but I have experienced zero pain and am still pain free, 3 weeks post-surgery. Yes, the neck brace one must wear following surgery is hot this time of year, but a minor trade off for regaining erect, pain free posture. The Doctor and his staff were most personable and easy to deal with; any questions I had were responded to quickly. A very definite TWO THUMBS UP!!

I knew I liked him after our first appointment and he was the one I have been looking for many, many years, He has a great bed side manner, funny and explains his procedures to where you can understand them in your terms. AMAZING and I would recommend him to anyone.

Outstanding doctor!!!! Went to my first visit and wow he was absolutely awesome. He thoroughly explained to me everything about my case and he told it to me that I would understand. He is an overachiever with lots of energy, willing to take complicated and challenging cases, which mine is. So two days later I had neck surgery and everything went perfect, it was straight again. Dr. Poelstra is intelligent and knows everything about what he trained to be. I knew the first time when I left his office I was very confident he was the right surgeon. Doctor to patient relations are wonderful. Thank you Dr. Poelstra for doing everything you do.

As a 72 year old retired Internist, I was astounded by the degree of pain that I experienced one morning as I got out of bed. I treated it myself for 3 long days and nights then opted for the local Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hospital ER. MRI confirmed a severe C6-C7 herniated disk. Treated with oral Rx then called Dr. K. Poelstra office for a follow-up appointment. Appointment was made for about 2 1/2 weeks. MRI was sent to their office by the hospital. The next day I received a call from Dr. Poelstra's office asking me to come in for a evaluation within the week. I was in Dr. Poelstra's office for less than 1 hour when the diagnosis was confirmed and an ACDF was scheduled. Surgery went miraculously well, pain completely gone, paraesthesis improving daily. The 3 week follow-up was just completed with no problems. Despite having referred many such patients with cervical and lumbar disk disease over the past 40 years, I never, ever truly knew how severe the pain was, until it… hit me. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the best possible treatment and outcome), I would rate Dr. K. Poelstra and the Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hospital a 15 !!! During the entire process, I had ONLY 1 complaint and this pertained to Dr. Poelstra and the entire pre-op and post-op care at Sacred Heart...I had prided my self as a "young" and "healthy" 72 year old man, they made me feel like I was at leas 130 years old. Dr. Poelstra and all of the hospital personnel seemed to vary in age from 15 to 19. It simply amazes me that they could have learned so many talents at such an early apparent age. Our local Destin, Florida area is truly blessed by the presence of Dr. K. Poelstra and the Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hospital. Thank you... Thank you... Thank you... James N. Wallace, M.D.

From start to finish every expectation was exceeded. Considering the amount of work Dr. Poelstra did on my neck, I was in very little pain immediately after and during my recovery. I went in that morning and was home that afternoon. Within five days I was completely off all pain medication. I highly recommend Dr. Poelstra.
